Beltangady, Oct 15: A policeman in plain clothes gave rise to ruckus with his rude behaviour in the town on the night of Friday October 14. It was found that he was heavily drunk.

Late evening on Friday, a senior citizen fell down and suffered injuries as the private bus moving between Dharmasthala and Kundapur moved ahead before he got firmly on the ground. Some auto rickshaw drivers who observed this, questioned the bus driver. A person nearby then suddenly started beating up the auto rickshaw drivers. People gathered there within minutes and caught hold of the man. He then revealed that he was a police personnel.

The people around and also the auto drivers expressed displeasure at the rude behaviour of the policeman. Later, police personnel from the station visited the spot. Eyewitnesses accused the police of trying to give the incident a decent burial with the aim of protecting their colleague.
