Udupi: Kota sub-inspector Kabbalraj transferred to Mangaluru

Udupi, Oct 16: Kota police sub-inspector Kabbalraj, who had found himself surrounded by controversy twice by resigning from employment to register his anger against the system, was transferred to Mangaluru on Friday October 14.

In June this year, rumours had spread that Kabbalraj had resigned in support of police agitation seeking pay hike, and condemning the arrest of Shashidhar, pro-police activist. The then district superintendent of police, Annamalai, had visited Kota police station and convinced Kabbalraj to continue in service.

He had again left police station in a huff on September 23, duly leaving behind his uniform, service revolver and other items, after recording in the diary that he was hurt at the pressure being exerted on him relating to certain issues by senior officials in the department. It was also said that he had left his resignation letter in the diary. Senior officials had counselled with him thereafter, and convinced him to take back his decision. He had reported for duty the next day, and had said he had not taken any decision to leave the job, when questioned.

Kabbalraj, who had been working at Kota since nearly two years, was known as honest officer who hated corruption. On both occasions when news of his resignation spread, leaders of several organizations and political leaders had contacted higher ups in the department and urged them to convince the sub-inspector to continue in police service. At the same time, some people had expressed ire, saying that he had taken sides in certain cases and refused to register first information reports.

His transfer to Mangaluru is expected to benefit him as his family is said to be staying near B C Road.

Honest police officers find it difficult to survive now a days. Mr. Kabbalraj had done good to the common citizens of Kota and has rubbed the rich in the bad way, resulted in his transfer. Hope he continues his good work in Mangalore too. Best wishes.
