Bantwal: 100-bed government hospital has only one wheelchair

Bantwal, Oct 16: The dream of upgrading 30-bed government hospital in Bantwal to 100-bed one is not recent. Patients with different ailments and people such as weak, elderly and physically challenged come here for treatment. However there is only one wheelchair for their needs. Several patients find it difficult to go to the  doctors without the wheelchair.

The work in the hospital is in progress since 2012 but the construction is not over yet. A completed portion of the hospital is being used to treat patients at present. Though the doctors here have received a circular that it is 100-bed hospital, it lacks in basic necessities. The doctors hope that the construction work will be completed by November and necessary equipment may reach the hospital.

Though the stock book of the hospital mentions that there are four wheelchairs in the hospital, the remaining three wheelchairs are out of order. Medical officer Radhika says that those chairs need repairs. “We are helpless for want of basic needs,” she says.

The government should provide the items needed in the hospital. Groups and organizations also can try to help.

    @ Rita,

Radhika woke up only when DW published the report.

No one can hold Health Minister responsible, if these lazy workers do not make an attempt to maintain their areas of responsibility, which is their duty to the nation.

Our fattened elected representatives should be forced to take treatment here!!

Priority should have been given to complete the hospital rather than spend 1.4 cr for a small park near Jodumarga!!

What to do? Govt has no money. Out of total revenue, money is spent salary, politicians expenses, free bagyas. No money for road & health care.
