Bengaluru, Oct 19: Uncertainty continues over the resignation of the former Congress minister V Srinivas Prasad, who had submitted his letter of resignation to the Karnataka State Assembly Speaker K B Koliwad, in Bengaluru on Monday even after a full 24 hours.

The Speaker has merely received the resignation letter from Prasad and has neither accepted it nor rejected it.

When reporters inquired with the Speaker on Tuesday, Koliwad said he would take some more days to decide whether to accept or not the resignation letter of Prasad.

“Accepting or rejecting the resignation of the Legislative Assembly member is left to my discretion. I need some more time,” the Speaker said.

He said there was no truth in media reports that he had rejected the resignation of Prasad.

In an unprecedented move, Koliwad posed eight questions to Prasad before receiving the resignation letter on Monday.

The Speaker had sought to know the reasons for the resignation in writing from the veteran Congress leader.

Meanwhile, the Speaker disclosed that he would hear the matter on disqualifying eight members of the JD(S) from the Assembly on October 27.

Eight MLAs, including former ministers Z A Zameer Ahmed Khan and Cheluvaraya Swamy had allegedly voted the Congress candidate in elections to the Rajya Sabha from the Legislative Assembly, a few months ago, which led to the JD(S) leadership in seeking their disqualification for flouting the party whip.
