Kundapur, Oct 21: Byndoor police sub-inspector, Santosh A Kainikini, and staff of his station found two calves being transported illegally in a way that caused suffering for the animals on Wednesday, October 19 at Yadthare near Byndoor. They rescued both the animals in operation.

When the police were checking vehicles near the new bus stand at Yadthare, they saw that a golden colour Tata Venture vehicle failed to stop even after signalling it to do so. They chased the vehicle and found that its occupants had abandoned the vehicle near Henberu Cross at Ottinene and decamped.

During verification, the police found two male calves, which were apparently stolen from somewhere, inside the abandoned vehicle. The hooves of the animals had been bound together and the animals were also tied to seats by their necks. The calves were suffering because of the way they were bundled inside the vehicle and tied.

A case stands registered about this incident. Police officers are investigating the case.
