Mangaluru: Man trying to smuggle ganja, cellphone, into prison held

Mangaluru, Oct 23: A person who tried to smuggle 80 grams of ganja and a cellphone without sim into the district prison was caught by the alert security personnel. He was later handed over to Barke police station.

On Friday October 21 evening, Javed (20) from Chokkabettu Suratal had come to the prison. He wanted to meet a jail inmate named Riyaz. The Central Industrial Security Force personnel manning the prison got doubt at the suspicious-looking walking style of Javed. They conducted proper check and found ganja hidden inside hollow space inside the soul of his footwear. A mobile phone without sim card was found from the pocket of his trousers.

The ganja recovered is said to be worth Rs 4,000. He was handed over to Barke police. On being produced in the court, Javed was entrusted to judicial custody of two weeks.
