Kasargod: Gang planning to abduct merchant for ransom held

Kasargod, Oct 24: A gang comprising persons from Uppala and Udupi, who had come armed with lethal weapons, was arrested by the policemen on Sunday October 23. The gang is said to have planned to abduct a merchant and then pester his family for payment of ransom for his release.

The arrested members of the gang are Bilal (18) from Uppal Naya Bazaar, Iqbal, (27), Abdul Samad (24) from Udupi, Muhammed Afsan (29) and Rasheem (39) from Padubidri in Udupi district, and Rayees (25), a resident of Taiparambil House, Kotacheri Kannur.

The arrests were made after finding a vehicle without number plate when the police were engaged in vehicle checking at Chirakkal, Thalassery. A Chevrolet Tavera car without number plate along with weapons like sword were impounded by the police. When the people in the car were interrogated, they revealed that they had planned to kidnap a merchant.
