Bantwal: Steel rods in Omni pierce through car ahead - occupants unhurt

Daijiworld Media Network - Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Nov 2: After the driver of a Maruti Suzuki Swift car applied the brake all of a sudden when moving through Dasakody in Soorikumeru near Kalladka on national highway 75, steel rods loaded on a Maruti Omni van that was closely following the said car pierced through the car in front. However, there was providential escape for the occupants of the car. The incident happened on the evening of Tuesday November 1.

A Bengaluru-based couple and their child who were in the Swift car escaped from disaster by a whisker. The car was moving towards Bengaluru from Mangaluru. It is said that the car driver slowed the car abruptly in an attempt to avoid driving through a pothole in front. Although the driver of the Omni following the car too applied the brake, iron rods carried by Omni entered the car through the rear window and made their way out through the front windshield.

The couple was seated in the front seats whereas the child was in the rear seat of the car. Luckily, the rods passed a few centimeters above the heads of the mother and child. As such, no one was hurt in the accident.

Because of this accident, traffic on the highway was adversely affected for sometime. Vittal police who arrived sometime later, cleared the vehicles and paved way for resumption of smooth traffic.

My friend J.F.D SOUZA, ATTAVAR,MANGALORE our RTO only waits for some death on the road, what as happened after the innocent children of Trasi, Kundapur died in June 2016. Has the RTO taken any action regarding the number of children carried by the OMIN'S,Vans and Auto's at one trip. The action taken by the RTO was only for a few days. We can see in Mangalore not only Tempo's even Auto's carry rods etc. on the roads. The real cause of this accident was the road, in Mangalore the roads are so bad specially the inner roads filled with potholes.

In Mangalore City limits many tempos carry such steel rods daily which is very dangerous to human life. RTO should take stringent action against these fellows who violate traffic rules.

This is India. Rules are only in rules book, no punishment for wrong doings. Only punishment is when you fail or late to pay tax on your small income from savings. Chalta hai bhai !!

This is merely a safety violation by transporting the goods in a passenger vehicle. Suppose to be transported in a commercial vehicle. Any load carried by the transport should confine only the inner space of the vehicle , not to extend or expose outside. This is happening everywhere in Mangalore. Police just look at and close their eyes.Stringent action to be taken against the OMNI driver by RTO
    Really god saved them.

Such an accident was waiting to happen. Lucky for the family, nothing happened to them. Recently, Mangaluru police opened up a whatsapp number to report traffic violations. They also seem to have a facebook page where people can report violations. I am sure many of the Police personally on the way would have seen this passenger Omni transporting stuff illegally. I guess they all were waiting for someone to complain. If nobody complains, it is business as usual.

RTO active only when Ministers or Celebrities visits city.

Karnataka RTO Staff & Traffic on duty staff all are enjoying life just signing on the register.

No Political Leaders are bothered to take any action to minimize the traffic accidents.

On questioning they say we have shortage of staff but when Political leaders visit dozens of Van full of Police staff on road you can find.

Even in Two wheeler & Auto Riksha's people carry even 5, 6 meters long steel pipes, they carry. No on bothered the safety nor any officials take action.

PEOPLE ARE USING PERSONAL CARRIERS FOR GOODS/MATERIAL/ANIMAL TRANSPORT, TWO WHEELERS FOR THE ENTIRE FAMILY TRANSPORT AND PASSENGERS STANDING ON STEPS OF CITY AND SERVICE BUSES IN THE ABSENCE OF REGULATORY CONTROLS RESULTING IN MISHAPS. CONCERNED AUTHORITIES SHOULD SERIOUSLY LOOK INTO THIS TO AVOID POTENTIAL DISASTERS.

The driver of omini should be jailed for 10 years for violating the rules.....he should know that omini is for passengers and not to carry steel rods bigger than the size of his omini car ... or he should be encountered by MP Police ....

Highly irresponsible way of Transporting this Material by the Trailing Omni and also he was driving so close to the Car. I hope RTO issues a hefty fine and Ban transporting such materials in passenger vehicles. There is not such thing called “Safety Practices “ in our country with regards to Traffic. Thanks to God for averting a possible disaster.
