Mysuru, Nov 6: The racket involving trafficking of young children which was unearthed recently in the district appears to have grown deep and wide over the last some years. On Saturday, husband of a fake doctor, Usha, identified as Francis, was arrested by Gundlupet police. Francis had placed a baby inside a cardboard box and was trying to take the baby back to its parents, having been fearful of recent developments, policemen stated.

With this, the number of arrests in the case has gone up to seven. More people are expected to be nabbed soon. Francis,  developing cold feet over chances of getting caught, had decided to give the child back to its parents instead of smuggling it  into Kerala. He had covered the baby with clothes and placed it in a cardboard box used to store medicines. He had hired a car from the city to reach Gundlupet in the district. He was accompanied by a nurse to take care of the baby in case of any complications.

Once the taxi reached its stand at Gundlupet, drivers there grew suspicious over the movements of Francis and alerted local police. When the police came, Umesh, the nurse and another accused, who had accompanied Francis, ran away. Taxi drivers had by then surrounded Francis. They rescued the baby from the box and handed it over to the police, who arrested Francis.
