Mandya: Bride arrested after solemnization of marriage

Mandya, Nov 24: Officials of Child Helpline and Child Protection unit entered the marriage hall and took into custody the bride, who was accepting presents from the guests after her marriage on Wednesday November 23 and guests were enjoying the feast. The incident happened at Vijayalaxmi community hall in the city.

Marriage of the girl, who was the daughter of Muttamma from Ummadahalli had been fixed with Girish, son of Yashoda and Venkatappa from Satanur. The marriage was solemnized at the appointed time of 9.30 am.

Helpline members, Nandini and Sujata, along with Rajendra of child protection unit went to the hall along with some policemen upon getting information that a minor girl's marriage had been arranged at the hall. They stopped further proceedings and took the minor bride into custody. The girl was entrusted to the care of juvenile home. A case has been registered against the groom, Girish, his parents, and mother of the bride.
