Mangaluru: Most ATMs cashless, Rs 500 new note still elusive

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Nov 25: Though the queues in banks to exchange and deposit cash have come down compared to last week, all is not well yet for common people.

It was said that sufficient notes of new Rs 500 denomination were sent to city. But it seems like very few people have seen these notes.

Rs 2,000 new notes are not for market as traders do not have change. It seems like Rs 2000 notes are meant for only ‘hoarding’ purpose. On top of that , poor people are not destined to hold this note.

Compared to past few days, more Rs 100, Rs 50 are seen in the market, but not enough to carry on the business as usual.

Bank officials insist that there is a good circulation of cash. But people still find hard to get cash in ATMs. Most of the ATMs in city are found closed. No one knows when the cash will come to particular ATMs. Security personnel outside the ATMs do not have any answer. Toll free numbers are seldom answered these days.

There are some ATMs which show ‘No cash’ notices even in the mornings. An ATM belonging to a private bank remains closed for the past several days.

People should habit of debit / credit card transaction for hassle-free business and less dependence on ATM. Traders, transporters must use card swiping machines.
