Sullia, Nov 28: A driver who was charged with causing death of five people after recklessly driving a truck and causing collision with the jeep in which they were seated, has been held not guilty by the court here. The court observed that the prosecution had failed to prove the charge stated above.

The accident in question had occurred on May 17, 2010, after a truck that was said to have been driven recklessly had hit a jeep coming from opposite direction at Anegundi in Kanakamajalu village. In this accident, five persons who were travelling in the jeep had died. Newly married Mohan, Bommanna, Narayan, Annu and Parameshwari, had died while Shashidhar, Suresh, Yamuna, and jeep driver, Narayana Gowda, had suffered serious injuries. Other passengers, Ramanand, Gayatri, Tokaiah, Jayaprasad and Chandappe had escaped with minor injuries.

Judge of the court here, S Saravanan, who conducted trial, concluded that the prosecution had failed to conclusively prove the charge framed against the truck driver. Accordingly, the accused was exonerated. Advocates, M Venkappa Goda, Champa V Gowda, Rajesh B G and Charanraj M had represented the accused and placed arguments on behalf of the driver in the court.
