Udupi district to observe ‘World HIV AIDS Day’ on Dec 1

Udupi, Nov 29: Deputy commissioner T Venkatesh at a press meet said that the district authority is organizing a district level ‘World HIV AIDS Day’ on December 1 with a slogan ‘Let us join hands to prevent HIV’.

“The government has decided to create awareness about HIV infection in schools and colleges. In order to do this, a jatha and Yakshagana will be organized at Smt Rukmini Shedti Memorial College, Barkur on December 1. We have also decided to organize health awareness programmes at 87 high schools and at 54 Red Ribbon colleges.”

“The district authority has facilitated 50% of bus pass for HIV infected and has allotted sites for 167 landless HIV infected families. The authority distributes food and hygiene kit for 249 children from DC’s special fund,” said deputy commissioner.

According to the general client district wise data in SAICTC, target till October was 32379 in Udupi and total tested male, female and TG were 8693, 6499 and 6 respectively. The general client district wise data in FICTC was 5010 and the total GC tested was 20208 and the achievement was 62.41%. The total detected positive number is 210 and the total positive rate is 1.04%, as per the data received by KSAPS.

As per the cumulative status report on ART from 2008 to October 2016 in Udupi ART said that the total number of pre ART registrations were 3968, alive on ART was 2394 and the reported death number was 727.

According to the DHO Dr Rohini, “Every month, one or two persons are tested HIV positive and among them many are pregnant women.”
