Kasargod, Nov 29: Two young students drowned in River Payasvini at Bavikkere near Mulleria on Monday November 28 afternoon while bathing. They have been identified as Asees (18), son of Muhammed from Povval Nellikat of Muliyaru gram panchayat, and Hashim (14), son of Abdul Khader from Kinningaru of Bellur gram panchayat. While Asees was a student of BAR higher secondary school at Bovikkana, Hashim was an eighth standard student of vocational government higher secondary school, Mulleria.

Both the boys who became victims of this tragic incident were related to each other. As their schools were closed on Monday because of the bandh call given by various political parties, they had accompanied several other young people to the river for bathing. Several parents were also with the students. The students, who were unaware about the internal current in the river, were sucked into the river and hence drowned. Although their parents were present, they could not rescue the children, it is gathered.
