Kasargod: Rs 20 lac in demonetised notes seized from bus near Manjeshwar

Kasargod, Dec 1: Excise officials on Thursday December 1 seized Rs 20 lac in demonetised currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 from a bus passenger near Manjeshwar excise check post.

Chowki resident Abdul Khader (42) has been arrested in this regard.

Based on credible information that drugs and large amounts in cash were being transported into Kasargod, the police had resorted to inspecting vehicles at check posts. The hawala cash was found in a bag belonging to the accused, who was travelling by KSRTC bus from Mangaluru to Kasargod.

Abdul Khader was taken into custody and questioned. During interrogation, he revealed that the cash was being brought from Mumbai to Kasargod.

Large amounts of currency have been found being transported in the district following demonetisation. Kasargod police had arrested five people with new currency notes worth Rs 6 lac a few days ago.

    Well done Modiji, Greetings to you from black money hoarders. Earlier they had to take double bags to carry cash. Now you have made it very simple, now a single bag is enough. Hope you will introduce Rs 5000 and 10000 soon!!!.
