Kundapur, Dec 4: A leopard which strayed into the compound of a house while chasing a dog fell into a well at Gudikeri, Ullur here in the wee hours of Sunday December 4. The leopard was later rescued.

The well is located in the property of Raghuram Shetty.

At around 3 am, Shetty was alerted by the continuous barking of a dog. When he came out of the house and looked around, he saw a leopard fallen in the well. Initially, he thought it was some thieves who had come to strike at his house, but on closer look with the help of a torch, he realized it was a leopard.

The family members who had woken up by then were frightened, as it was the first time a leopard had strayed into their compound. As morning dawned, Raghuram Shetty informed the forest officials and the locals about the incident.

The forest officials lifted the leopard safely out from the well using a net, with the help of the locals. The animal was later released into a nearby reserved forest.

Vandse block Congress president and Mescom director Sampigedi Sanjeeva Shetty, gram panchayat member Suprasad Shetty, Santosh Poojary and locals took part in the rescue operation.
