Beltangady: Liquor addiction - youth immolates himself

Beltangady, Dec 7: A youth from Beejadapalike in Mogru village of the talk committed suicide by dousing himself with kerosene and then setting himself afire. The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 6.

The youngster who chose to end his life in this manner was Ramesh (22), son of Jinnnappa Gowda from Beejadapalike village. As usual, he had left home to work as coolie. Within sometime after starting work, he suddenly abandoned it, went home, bolted himself inside his house, and  committed suicide.

On hearing shrieks coming in from the house, Ramesh's father who was nearby peeped into the house through the window. He realized that his son had poured kerosene on himself and started fire. Locals rushed there after hearing the alarms raised by family members and broke open the door. But it was too late, and Ramesh had lost his life.

In a complaint filed in Uppinangady police station, Jinnappa Gowda said that his son ended his life out of frustration created by his addiction to liquor.
