Bantwal: Taluk level Karavali Utsav on December 19

Bantwal, Dec 17: "We have been organizing the annual event, district level Karavali Utsav, since many years to showcase the cultural richness of the district. We aim to organise Karavali Utsav at taluk level too. Towards this direction, Karavali Utsav is being celebrated in the taluk after a gap of eight years on December 19 at Hotel Rangoli hall, B C Road on December 19 from 5 pm to 10 pm," explained Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai.

Giving information at a press conference convened at SGSY auditorium here on Friday December 16, the minister said that a grand procession will commence at 3 pm that day from Brahmashri Narayana Guru Circle, B C Road. The procession will move through Raja Road and Kaikamba before returning to Rangoli auditorium. President of Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat, Meenakshi Shantigodu, will initiate the procession, he explained.

The meeting connected with the Utsav will begin at 5 pm. On this occasion, student from Sajipa Mooda, Vaishakh, who survived a python scare by boldly fighting with the reptile, will be felicitated. On this occasion, veteran writer, Dr Erya Laxminarayana Alva, will deliver a special talk about the history and cultural background of this region, he stated.

"Minister, U T Khader, MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, municipal and gram panchayat members, people's representatives, district deputy commissioner, and district superintendent of police will take part. All preparations for holding the Utsav on an impressive scale have been made. We have plans to hold the programmes on a larger scale next year," he stated. The minister also informed that a theatre or community hall is planned to be built at B C Road, which will come in handy for holding cultural programmes.

Mangaluru assistant commissioner, Renuka Prasad, who was present, said that after Ramanath Rai inaugurated the meeting programme of Karavali Utsav, Bharat Natyam, folklore dance, music, variety programmes by local students, dance by Anganwadi workers, skit , folk dances by Kannada and culture department, comedy etc will be organized. He also said that seven committees have been formed for the successful conduct of the Utsav. "As all the other halls in the town have been booked for other programmes on that day, we plan to hold the programme in the hall of Hotel Rangoli," he explained.

Taluk panchayat president, Chandrahas Karkera, vice president, Abbas Ali, municipal president, Ramakrishna Alva, vice president, Muhammed Nandarabettu, Karavali Utsav procession committee convener, Sudarshan Jain, tahsildar, Purandar Hegde, and taluk panchayat executive officer, Cyprian Miranda, were present.
