Mangaluru: Expert Time Square Music & Dance Festival provides visual treat

Mangaluru, Dec 20: ''Time Square Music and Dance Festival 2016'', the latest edition of Expert PU College''s gala annual event, featured two top-notch presentations by the famous tabla artiste Rimpa Shiva and the renowned dance-duo of Nirupama-Rajendra.

Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman of Expert Group of Institutions; Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson of Expert Expert Group of Institutions; Prof Ramachandra Bhat, principal of Expert PU College, Kodialbail; Dr N K Vijayan, principal of Expert PU College, Valachil and M C Kariappa and Vinitha Kariappa, parents of Sharana Kariappa, president, student parliament, Expert PU College, Valachil, inaugurated the festival by lighting the ceremonial lamp.

Vidushi Rimpa Shiva, the ‘Princess of Tabla’ regaled the audience with her tabla solo with a remarkably high degree of energy, acute technical skill and inventive repertoire. Vidwan Satish Kolli, the popular harmonium artiste, supported her with ''Lehra'' or cyclic melodies which serve as an aural reference to the taal.

Nirupama and Rajendra, the dynamic dancing couple and their ''Abhinava Dance Company'' enchanted one and all with their riveting Kathak dance infused with innovation, creativity. They performed six vibrant compositions namely ''Mangal Dhwani'', ''Rang'', ''Raasleela'', ''Ta-Dha'', ''Veer Abhimanyu'' and ''Kadam Kadam''.

Ushaprabha N Nayak, vice-chairperson, Expert Group of Institutions felicitated the artistes by presenting bouquets and mementos to them. In her congratulatory address, the vice-chairperson paid rich tributes to the consummate artistry of the artistes.

Pruthvi U V, physics faculty compered the programme while Aishwarya V Nayak, convenor, Communication proposed the vote of thanks.
