Belagavi, Dec 22: The district court here has directed a couple to live together after they were away from each other for 40 years.

Ganesh Patil (65) and Mallavva (60) from Kalve village are the couple. They had got married in 1973. But after three years, she went to her maternal home with the reason that they did not have a child. After that they never lived together.

Though both of them lived in the same village, they did not see eye to eye. After 24 years, Mallavva went to court in 2000, and demanded that she be given maintenance from Ganesh Patil. The court said that Ganesh should provide Rs 1000 support to Mallavva every month.

Ganesh paid her Rs 1000 every month as the court directed without failure. In April, 2016, Ganesh went to court and said he is old and cannot work like before. He said he will not be able to pay Mallavva henceforth and the couple should be directed to live together during their ripe age.

The court, on Wednesday December 22, asked the couple to live together and has gave them a month’s time in this direction.

It is said that whenever the couple met during the last 16 years mainly when the husband handed over Rs 1000 to wife, they did not talk to each other.
