Udupi, Dec 25: The World GSB convention, where people belonging to Gowd Saraswat Brahmin community representatives from all corners of the world are expected to meet at Hejamady on the district's border with Dakshina Kannada, is being held on Sunday December 25. The organizers expect participation of over 30,000 people in the convention.

At the convention set to begin at 9 am, over a crore of rupees will be handed over for the welfare of army perosonnel to defence minister, Manohar Parikkar, who will be gracing the convention. Nagaland governor, Padmanabha Balakrishna Acharya, union minister, Suresh Prabhu, chairman of Manipal Global Education, T V Mohandas Pai, and president of World GSB convention, Dr P Dayananda Pai are among the dignitaries who will be part of the convention.

35 stalls dishing out delicacies that are unique to the community, exhibition stalls representing their culture and traditions, cultural programmes which will project cultural richness of GSB community, and sessions on education, employment, industries etc will be some of the programmes planned on the occasion. The convention will have a separate counter dedicated to lost and found items.

The first ever world convention of the community will be held at Ullal Srinivas Mallya dais set up in Rashtrakavi Manjeshwar Govinda Pai hall. The convention is being held under the aegis of GSB Hitarakshana Vedike. Organizing secretary of the convention, Deepak Kamath Kanjarkatte, said that volunteers are on the task since a day in advance for the convention. Over 35 bio toilets will be stationed to cater to the needs of the people.

Separate registration counters have been opened for delegates coming from different locations. General secretary of the Vedike, Sanoor Narasimha Kamath, said that as against the target set to collect Rs 36.5 lac for National Defence Fund, the Vedike received contribution of over one crore rupees from patriot GSB community.
