Mysuru: Video of man tying Siddaramaiah's shoelaces goes viral; BJP flays CM

Mysuru, Dec 25 (PTI): In an embarrassment to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, a video of a person tying his shoelaces at an event here has gone viral, prompting opposition BJP to dub him as 'arrogant' and 'pseudo-secularist.'

The video shows a person bending down to tie the shoelaces of the Chief Minister and him looking elsewhere.

Some reports said the man was Siddaramaiah's Personal Assistant staying at his house in Mysuru, but the Chief Minister's media advisor clarified in a tweet that he was a relative.

"It is hereby clarified that the person tying CM Siddaramaiah's shoelaces is not his staff, but his relative: Media Adviser to Karnataka CM," the tweet said.

The BJP was quick to react, with state party General Secretary C T Ravi dubbing Siddaramaiah as 'arrogant' and 'pseudo socialist.'

"Arrogance of Pseudo Socialist @CMofKarnataka has no limits. Absolutely disgusting that Siddaramaiah gets his shoes fitted by an assistant," Ravi tweeted.

In March this year, Siddaramaiah had been mired in a controversy over an expensive watch gifted to him and he had handed it over to the Speaker in the state assembly, declaring it a state asset.

He had written to the Speaker, saying he had paid 'advance tax' for the HUBLOT BIG BANG.301-M watch, claimed to be worth Rs 70 lakh and as Chief Minister, was following precedents set by his predecessors and declaring it as government asset.

Siddaramaiah had said the watch was presented to him by his Dubai-based NRI friend Dr Girish Chandra Varma in July 2015 at Bengaluru as a personal gift.

    Alwyn,

'We do the same thing to our kids, parents, sick people, and friends too'
    - like i said before this is not same. I want you to think why it is not.

So what is big deal in this. It is a humble act by the person who did it.
    - Really? This is a common excuse given for continuation of slave culture.

He protected the CM otherwise he could fall. Good thinking and good act. He is a nic eperson but BJP gang in wrong track always find evil in all good act.
    - If this would have involved Modi, then would your comment be same?

My comment would be same even if it was Modi.

Of course 100%. I do not consider PM,CM,or poor man in this case if you do the good thing with good thought, with good intention, and for good friendship. If I am next to Modi and if I found the same surely I will do the same. I never hate any human but surely their practice if it hurts or evil one. Thank you and hope you are happy now. God Bless.

This is not shocking at all. We have never come out of our slave culture. Our culture has never recognised that the all men are equal. It acceptable that children touching parents feet to show respect but I always feel repulsed when i see people touch the feet of politicians and celebrities.

Fact: Did you know one of the reasons that led to Alexander`s army to mutiny? It was that after Alexander defeated Porus and was d victor, subjects used to fall on his feet. This might be usual for the indian culture (paying respect), but for the soldiers of Alexander, this was a complete shocker, because they considered all men equal(at least their own countrymen).

Cricketers are tying their shoelaces each other, regardless who they are representing same country. Here what is the problem. At least respect Mr. CM's age.
Media is the main culprit here.

If a politician cannot tie his own shoe laces then how will be rule a state/country.

If he is physically unfit, then he/she must resign.

Cricketers tying each others laces is different thing. If you really thought about that you would have known that it is not the same.

Are the BJP guys gone out of their minds? What is wrong if a relative ties the shoelace? Is it a crime? This how BJP campaigns for its worth. Why don't you go and fight poverty, devadasi system, untouchability, bonded labour..etc. Siddhu surely is a better CM than Yeddy or Sadananda Gowda

Look at his Age, he is 68 Years, can he bend himself and tie his own shoe lace when he is going for some program or function.
If he himself try to tie his own shoe lace, it's quiet natural that definitely someone will help looking at his age.
I don't understand why BJP finding fault calling CM arrogance, don't they have any better Fact to criticize him.
Does BJPans Forget The mantras are from the Taittiriya Upanishad, Shikshavalli I.20 that says: matrudevo bhava, pitrudevo bhava, acharyadevo bhava, atithidevo bhava. It literally means "be one for whom the Mother is God, be one for whom the Father is God, be one for whom the Teacher is God, be one for whom the guest is God."
    Long live SIDDARAMAIAHJI...

In the past Union home minister Rajnath Singh has landed in a new controversy, after getting his shoelaces tied by a Jawan of the Border Security Force (BSF).

In another incident a Cooperatives minister Gauri Shankar Bisen in Madhya Pradesh’s BJP government got into a messy tangle after he got a young tribal schoolboy to tie his shoelaces as he sat on the podium during a public function to lay the foundation stone of a road project in Chhindwara district.

Arrogance of Pseudo Socialist culture did exist in BJPians only to inherited by other political party to follow.

It is disgusting to as army jawan and children to ask to tie the loose laces.
