Kasargod: Scooter hits electric pole - Two die, boy survives

Kasargod, Dec 26: Two persons lost their lives while a boy sustained grievous injuries, after a scooter hit a roadside electric pole after the rider lost control over it, and the scooter toppled. The accident occurred at Trikkannad within the limits of Bekal police station in the district on Monday December 26 morning.

The deceased have been identified as Shanmukham (55) from Kotikulam, and his relative, Shivakumar (48).

Babu (14), son of Shanmukham, who suffered serious injuries, has been admitted to hospital.

The trio was returning home after taking part in annual festival of a temple at Bekal when the scooter went out of control and hit an electric pole. All the three were admitted into hospital by locals with serious injuries thereafter. While two did not respond to treatments and breathed their last, the boy has survived.

The bodies of the deceased have been kept in the mortuary of the general hospital in the town. They will be handed over to relatives after postmortem. Police personnel from Bekal station conducted inquest.

    most of the time the police close the case by mentioning Accident due to negligence but no one gets into the depth of it. Bad designed roads, pits and unscientifically designed speed breakers also are some of the major reasons.

    Every day one reads about scooter accidents and deaths. They seem to be offenders in many ways. It is a common sight to see scooters overtaking from the left.... and if the driver of the four wheeler decides to turn left - it is sure serious injury to the scooter driver and then the driver of the four wheeler will be blamed.

    Very much in Mangalore. No one is bothered to keep distance from other vehicles. They just want to go first. And while doing so, some of them do go first FOREVER!!
