Bantwal: Former GP president found dead in motor bike accident

Bantwal, Dec 27: The body of former president of Kepu gram panchayat and resident of Adyanadka Amai in Kepu village, Sanjeeva Nayak (56) was found stuck under his motor bike on Monday December 26. Nayak, an agriculturist and Congress leader, was found dead at the road bend at Malethadka near Punacha village.

Nayak is survived by wife, a son, and two daughters. He was an amateur Yakshagana artiste too.

Reportedly, Sanjeeva Nayak was invited to don a role in a Yakshagana performance organized on Sunday night at Mahishamardini Bhajana Mandir in Punacha village. He had taken the route via Toranakatte village. It is believed that when taking the dangerous road bend at Malethadka, he would have lost control over his vehicle, after which his vehicle could have tripped and hit a roadside mud wall. Nayak suffered severe head injuries, and the fact that the motor bike got deposited over him must have made it impossible for him to move from the spot. The incident came to light after a local noticed the fallen motor bike and called the police station on Monday morning.

Nayak had functioned as president of Kepu gram panchayat from 2000 to 2005 with the support of Congress, and had also served as its member from 2010 to 2015. He had worked as president of Amai booth unit of the Congress, treasurer of Coconut Growers Society, member of Kallangala high school's development committee, executive committee member of Amai School's platinum jubilee celebrations committee and as a social worker. He had served twice as president of Amai self help group under Dharmasthala Rural Development Project.

Since several years, he carried on agriculture and dairying activities, besides occasionally taking part in Yakshagana plays as an amateur artiste. Being the president of Mugeru Yakshagana Kalasangha in Katukukke, be used to organize Yakshagana programme once every month.

Zilla panchayat member, M S Muhammed, vice president of Kepu gram panchayat, Yashaswini Shastri Nekkare, member, Abdul Karim Kuddupadavu and a largell number of people paid their last respects to the deceased social worker and shared the grief of his family members.
