Vijayapura, Dec 28: Two married women drowned in a pond due to slippery surroundings on Tuesday December 27. The deceased were Basamma Bheemanna Chalageri (19), and her relative, Shilpa Sayibanna Madara (18) from Padekanur village in the district.
Both of them were closely related to each other. They had been married at a function held on Friday last. They belonged to families of workers making bricks and currently stayed at Kaggodu village for this purpose.
Parents of the girls had visited Bandeppana Salawadagi village to attend the funeral of a relative. The two ladies together had gone near the pond a little away from their current residence for collecting firewood. The policemen who investigated the incident said that both the girls slipped and drowned in the pond.
