Madikeri, Dec 30: A man who suspected the character of his wife stabbed and killed her, tried to commit suicide by slitting his own throat thereafter. This gruesome incident occurred in M Badaga grama, Moornadu on Thursday, December 29.

A daily wage worker and resident of Assam, Zahirul Islam(26), is the said person, and the victim is his wife Zaharunnisa(24). They had arrived three months ago as daily wage workers at a Coffee estate belonging to Barianda Sanjan in M Badaga grama. They stayed in 'line house', there.

There were frequent quarrels between them, suspecting Zaharunnisa's fidelity, their relatives said. Their squabble from Wednesday night continued till the morning of the next day. As the fight reached its peak, Zahirul Islam stabbed his wife with the knife in the house. He slashed across her face, neck, head and back in 13 places.  He then slit his own throat. The relatives of the couple escorted the injured  to Mysore hospital.

SP M Muthuraj, DySP Chabbi and staff visited the place and have taken further action.
