Mangaluru: Three arrested for selling cars with tampered chassis

Mangaluru, Dec 31: Police from Barke station here on Friday December 31, arrested three persons who were seen loitering around at Mannagudde. Police have clues to believe that the trio is involved in a car selling racket.

Sampath Kumar (36) from Konchady, Harish Shetty (49) from Kottara and Wilfred Avinash Soans (32) from Ashoknagar are the persons arrested.

PSI (crime) from Barke police station, Narendra, received credible information that the trio is engaged in car dealing business. When the police found these three persons in a Lancer car and demanded the records of the car, they failed to convince the police that the car belonged to any of them.

Police, after interrogation, came to know that the gang of these three was involved in selling cars after tampering with the chassis numbers. The total number of cars sold by them is yet to be known.

Two cars, gas welding cylinders, pipe and other items worth Rs 4.5 lac were recovered by the police from the gang.

ACP Udaya Nayak was in charge of the operation with other police personnel from Barke police station.
