Mangaluru: 21-year-old youth drowns in river while having bath with friends

Mangaluru, Jan 1: A young man lost his life due to drowning when he had gone with his friends to have bath in Nandini River in Soorinje near Suratkal, on Saturday December 31.

Nizamuddin (21) from Krishnapura 6th block is the person deceased.

Nizamuddin had gone with his friends Naji, Nadim, Aspaq, Suhail and Jabbar on Saturday afternoon with the purpose of having bath at Nandini River. While four of them started bathing in the river, two of them including Nizamuddin sat on the rock nearby.

Nizamuddin who walked into water later slipped suddenly. He shouted for help. But, as none of his friends knew swimming, he could not be saved.

A rescue team which arrived from Thannirbavi at 7 pm managed to retrieve the dead body.

Nizamuddin was working as a driver in a tempo dealing with fish. He was the bread winner for his family.
