Madikeri, Jan 6: The suicide case of DySP Ganapathi has been revived following petitions by Kushalappa, father of late Ganapathi, brother Machiah and sister Babitha to hand over the case to CBI.

Supreme Court has taken up the case for hearing and issued a notice to Karnataka state government.

There were widespread demands for handing over the mysterious suicide case of hanging of Mangaluru DySP Ganapati in a lodge in Madikeri on June 7, 2016.

There were state-wide protests urging then home minister K J George to investigate the case. The state government had assigned the investigation to COD. Minister George had later resigned for his post. As COD gave a clean chit to George after investigations, he once again became the minister in the cabinet.

Ganapati’s father Kushalappa and brother Machiah approached Supreme Court on December 27, 2016 requesting to hand over the case to CBI. Supreme Court judge Adarsh Kumar led bench which took up the case for hearing on Thursday, January 5 has issued a notice to Karnataka state government asking why the case should not be handed over to CBI for investigation. The state government will have to give a satisfactory answer to the Supreme Court.
