Mangaluru, Jan 10: KMC Nava Chaitanya, the senior citizens of KMC Bejai and Attavara spiritedly welcomed the new year with Spoorthi Trust at KMC Hospital Attavar, recently.
The program was inaugurated by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by chief guest Dr Ramesh Bhat, professor of Physiology KMC, and other guests including Jerardin D'souza, founder of Mangalore Alzheimer's Association (MAA), Kumudha Ramachandra Rao, Devi Pradha Hegde, Dr Nayantara, and Dr Anupama.
"Though all Nava Chaitanya Members do YOGA regularly, their weight doesn't look like it's reducing," said Dr Ramesh Bhat in light humour in his Inaugural address. "Yet it is important for members to meet and exercise regularly and share their lives joyfully" he added.
"I may look like a laughing Buddha, but the Joy and Happiness on laughing Buddha's face indicates that reducing weight alone won't make you happy," said Jerardin D'souza in a humourous reply. "The joy that I find in Nava Chaitanya members is truly contagious and adds life to everyday activities," he said in his address.
Kumudha Rao, a regular guest at all the programmes even at 90, blessed all members of Nava Chaitanya and Spoorthi Trust, and encouraged them to be active and energetic like her.
Dr Prabha Adhikari, founder of both KMC Nava Chaitanya and Spoorthi Trust, a multi-faceted professional with a palliative approach to life , was honoured by all the Guests.
"My mother is my inspiration. During her youngest daughters wedding, when she was 70 years old, she sustained a fracture and bravely coped with it. She even cooked with a fractured hand. I am only 60 and I will manage" said Dr Prabha, who had a fracture on her hand but was present for the programme owing to the affection of her fellow members.
The cultural programme was marked with gaiety. There was a medley of songs by Rehman. Kamath brilliantly compered the programme. Both western and Indian classical dances were performed. A skit loaded with humour was enacted to perfection by all the Nava Chaitanya and Spoorthi members.
Anusuya Pai welcomed the cheerful gathering.
Devi Pradha Hegde, her daughter Nidhi, and the team who tirelessly organised the program thanked everyone instrumental in the organising the programme.
A round of Housie-Housie followed sumptuous lunch. The gathering truly enjoyed the day, celebrating the dawn of an eventful year.
