Kasargod: Sexual harassment - Accused sentenced to 9 years in jail

Kasargod, Jan 12: A court here has sentenced a person accused of sexually harassing a girl, to nine and half years of jail term and imposed penalty of Rs 7,500, after finding that charges levelled against him have been proved.

The accused, who has now been pronounced guilty, is Karunan alias Karindalan (53), resident of Tayannur Kuttadka Tottattil in Hosdurg taluk.

The police had booked him for sexually harassing a 14-year-old girl within Ambalattara police station limits on various occasions between January 26, 2011 and November 6, 2012.

In the charge sheet submitted to the court, Ambalattara police personnel had said that the accused had illegally entered the house of the said student on different days when no one else was present and inflicted sexual harassment on her.

In this case, the teachers, observing that the girl in question was erratic in attending school, had alerted Childline officials. Thereafter, a case was filed in Ambalattara police station.
