Mangaluru Jan 30: Mangaluru's first organic ‘Everyday Super Mart’ was inaugurated by former minister Krishna J Palemar at Essel Willcon Bendoorwell on Sunday January 29.

Speaking on the occasion, Palemar said, “Mangalureans were in need of such organic super mart and this ‘Everyday Super Mart’ provides you the organic items which is good for health. This is the first of its kind in Mangaluru. I welcome the move made by the director of every day super mart to launch organic mart at the heart of the city. Today, people consume vegetables and fruits which are not organic and poisonous with excessive use of pesticides."

Farmer in chief the pet bharo project Lt Cdr CV Prakash said, “Consuming good food is birth right of each individual. If you don’t have good food then we will end up with diseases. When I was in Australia I noticed few of them using hydro phonic techniques for growing plants, herbs in their backyard for healthy food. This excited me and I learnt this technique with the growers in Australia which took lot of time.”

“In this modernised world excessive use of pesticide leads to dangerous disease like cancer and we need to think how much amount of pesticides we consume on daily basis through such vegetables or other food items. Organic farming is natural and healthy. It is a good move taken up by the director of ‘Everyday Super Mart’ to introduce organic foods to the customers. Healthy Mangaluru is a happy Mangaluru.” Prakash added.

“Everyone likes to have gobi manchuri without knowing how much pesticides and virus does a cauliflower have. We have a denial attitude as nothing will happen and prefer to consume such food items which are unhealthy. Hydro Phonics technology is such a method which will help in growing food naturally without using pesticides. I have learnt this in Australia and I will be hiring a workshop on Hydro Phonics in Mangaluru on February 12 so that young generations are aware of the benefits of this technology.” Prakash concluded.

Chairman of Yenapoya Group Y Mohammed Kunhi and others were present.

Organic mart ? Where do they get their produce from ? Not from the wholesale market surely ?

Will I be able to supply them with vegetable I grew ? For example, Coriandar, Amaranthus, Green Chilly, tomato, brinjal, ribbed gourd, string beans, pumpkin ?

If this is possible, in a way this concept is encouraging people to go for barter system, if not for monetary gain, exchanging with the item they can't grow.
