Mangaluru, Feb 3: As the struggle to preserve the Coastal sport, Kambala gains ground in the nation, 'Namma Kambala' a song from the coast becomes an internet sensation, making rounds in social media circles.
This song has been produced by Sreeshal Alva and Gautham Shetty and popularised by the group 'Cavort India'.
Due to the stay granted by courts, the sport has been banned till further orders. The idea of a song to preserve the sport then occurred to scriptwriter Mayur R Shetty over talks about Kambala. Song director of Pilibail Yamunakka, Kishore Kumar Shetty was contacted later, and the song, formed.
Mayur Shetty has written the lyrics for the song and Kishore Shetty has provided the music. Patla Satish Shetty, the bhagvata of tenku tetti form of Yakashagan is the singer of this internet sensation and is accompanied by violinist Nidhi Bhat, flautist Varun Rao and percussionist Devanandh Bhat Mijar. Manjushree joins in for the chorus adding more life to the song. Monish Kumar has successfully edited the song. The music video of lesser than five minutes duration and portrays wind instruments used in the festival, along with the familiar scenes of buffaloes and their human companions racing through the slush and water, highlighting the importance of the sport. The song also presents the singer and the musicians who have put life into the song.
The song has received an incredible number of views, claiming to have as high as 23,000 views on youtube within two days of uploading.
