Mumbai, Jul 2: A 40-year-old female teacher from a prominent school in Mumbai has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old male student multiple times over the past year. The accused, who is married with children, faces charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, and the Indian Penal Code.

According to police reports, the English teacher developed an attraction to the student during meetings to organize a dance group for the school's annual function in December 2023. She reportedly made sexual advances towards him in January 2024. When the student began to avoid her, the teacher sought assistance from a friend, who is also facing charges, and encouraged the student to pursue a relationship with her.

The situation escalated when the teacher allegedly picked up the student in her car, took him to a secluded location, and sexually assaulted him. Following the incident, she provided him with anti-anxiety medication. Reports indicate that she later took the student to luxury hotels in South Mumbai, where she coerced him into sexual relations after getting him intoxicated.

The case came to light when the student's family noticed a change in his behavior and confronted him. Although they initially chose to handle the matter privately, the situation worsened when the teacher contacted the student again after he graduated. The family then decided to report the matter to the police, leading to the teacher's arrest.

Authorities have registered a case under various sections of the POCSO Act, as well as relevant provisions of the IPC and the Juvenile Justice Act.
