Pune, Jul 3: A horrifying case of animal cruelty has surfaced from Pune, where a woman was caught on CCTV brutally abusing her pet cat, drawing widespread condemnation across social media. The disturbing footage, shared by Nitesh Khare of the Society for Animal Safety, shows the woman violently slamming the cat to the ground and later hurling it into the air multiple times.

The incident took place in a building corridor where the woman is seen picking up the cat, slamming it repeatedly, slapping it, and throwing it across the hallway. Despite the cat's desperate attempts to escape, the woman chases and grabs it again, only to continue her shocking assault.

The woman, a student from Chhattisgarh, was residing in Pune with her partner. Though her identity has been confirmed, her name has not been made public for safety reasons, according to Khare.

"A pet cat was brutally beaten and thrown by a student. Thanks to quick police intervention, they were detained and made to understand the gravity of their actions. The cat is now safe and will soon be placed in a foster home," Khare posted on Instagram. An NC (non-cognisable) complaint has been filed in the matter.

The video has sparked a flood of emotional responses online, with users calling for strict legal action and public accountability. Comments ranged from questioning the woman’s mental stability to demanding that her identity be revealed and she face public scrutiny.

Animal welfare activists have reiterated that such acts of cruelty are punishable under Indian law, and reminded the public that pets deserve the same compassion and respect as any family member.

The Society for Animal Safety has assured that they will continue to fight for the rights of voiceless animals and ensure that such cases do not go unnoticed or unpunished.
