Puttur, Mar 11: Uppinangady police have arrested two persons accused of stealing cellphones from a shop. 13 cellphones were recovered from their possession.

The arrested accused have been identified as Nagesh D (27) from Golithottu village and Shivakumar alias Kumar (23), resident of Nelligeri in Moodukody village. 13 cellphones were confiscated from their possession.

On Thursday March 9 morning, a  box containing 13 cellphones had arrived at City Mobile Centre at Uppinangady with instructions to deliver the same to a shop dealing in mobile phones located at Arasinamakki. The shop owner, who kept the parcel on the table, continued with the work of sweeping the shop floor.

Later, he found that the parcel had gone missing from its position over the table. Muhammed Rafiq thereafter filed complaint in Uppinangady police station.

Uppinangady police, who were investigating, got information that two persons were involved with sale of cellphones near the bus stand. They went to the bus stand, took the two into custody, and questioned them. They realized that the cellphones the duo was selling were stolen ones. The two had taken away the box, after finding that no one was looking at them.

On being produced in the court here, the two accused were remanded to 15 days judicial custody. The operation was conducted under the guidance of rural police circle inspector, Anil S Kulkarni, and sub-inspector, Ratan.
