New Delhi, Mar 5: Exam blues have claimed one more life in the National capital with a teenaged girl allegedly shooting herself dead on Tuesday morning.
Tanvi (16), a class XI student of DAV school in North- West Delhi's Peetampura, fired a bullet on her right temple at around 8 am at her residence, a senior police official said.
She used the licenced revolver of her father Sitaram, who is a farmer in Haryana, to kill herself.
The girl died on the spot, he said adding a case has been registered and investigations are on.
Tanvi was depressed for sometime and was worried that she may not be able to do well in the class XI exams, the official said.
At least three cases of students committing suicide due to examination pressure were reported from various parts of the capital this month.
Priyanka Bharadwaj (19) of Venketeswara college was found hanging in her South Delhi residence hours before an internal assessment examination on February 25 while Jyoti committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of her West Delhi residence due to poor academic performance on February 21.
G N Vinay, a class 12 student of Kalka public school who was preparing for IIT entrance, was found hanging in his room on February five at Gulmohar park hostel in South Delhi.
Exam blues have taken 2,378 lives in 2006 as against 2283 in 2005 and 2,496 in 2004. This is about two per cent of the total number of suicides, according to latest government figures. In Delhi, 13 students have committed suicide in 2006 as compared to 22 in 2005 and 20 in 2004.
