Mangaluru, May 2: Dakshina Kannada district backward classes welfare officer, Dr Nagarajappa (49), who was arrested after having been accused of raping a girl student staying at BCA Hostel at Ashok Nagar here, has secured bail from the court.

Nagarajappa was accused of inducing a 16-year-old student of the said hostel and then raping her. Police personnel of women's station here had arrested the official on March 31 this year after receiving a complaint. It was said that in the guise of hostel inspection, he used to repeatedly visit this particular hostel and during each of these visits, summon this particular girl student into the hostel office. The other inmates of the hostel, who grew suspicious, questioned the girl student and got to know the truth. After this matter came to their knowledge, personnel of women's station visited the hostel, obtained details from the girl and then arrested the accused.

The court has granted bail to the accused. Advocate, S P Chengappa, had appeared and placed arguments on behalf of the accused in the court.
