Udupi: Theft on Manipal Road - family loses ornaments worth three lac rupees

Udupi, May 8: Thieves, who took advantage of the prolonged absence of the family, entered their home and stole gold ornaments worth about three lac rupees. The incident happened on Kalsanka-Manipal Road here, and the theft came to light on Sunday morning, May 7.

Owner of the house, Ammunje Premananda Nayak, had left with family on May 3 for Pune to take part in a family programme. He reached back home at around 7.30 am on Sunday and found that the front door of his home had been broken open. When he tried to push the door, it was found locked from inside. Later, the family realized that they had become victims of theft.

The thieves who went into the house by breaking the door, opened a cupboard inside the bedroom and stole gold ornaments, precious jewels,  diamond ring and other ornaments and cash of Rs 35,000. Total amount of theft has been put at approximately Rs 3 lac.

A complaint about this theft was lodged in the town police station here. Police personnel have undertaken investigation.
