Mangaluru, May 9: A factory engaged in production of goods meant for export to foreign countries caught fire in the early hours of Tuesday May 9. The incident, which happened near Special Economic Zone at Ganjimutt near here, inflicted loss running into nearly Rs 10 crore on the owners.

The factory titled 'Moha Packaging India Ltd' belonging to Mohammed Haneef from Bajpe along with two other partners, was the unit which was ravaged by the late night fire. As per an estimate, loss due to this fire has been put at around 10 crore rupees.

The factory was partly gutted in the fire which is believed to have occurred due to short circuit. Bajpe police came to know about the fire at around 2.40 am on Tuesday. Thereafter, they conveyed information to the factory owner.

Fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot with fire tenders and extinguished fire thereafter.

This export-oriented manufacturing unit manufactures items made of plastic. The factory had a large stock of industries packaging items, liners, etc being produced there besides garbage. Huge stock of finished products which were kept ready for export to Dubai in a couple of days were reduced to ashes along with machinery, it is gathered.
