Belagavi, May 11: The wife of a forest department official from the district was slain at her home on Wednesday May 10.

Bhargavi Morappanavara (58), wife of Anand Morappanavara, deputy forest conservator of social forestry department, was found murdered in her house at Dwarakanagara, Tilakwadi in the city. A few ornaments worn by her apparently were stolen.

Bhargavi was alone at home when the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. Clothes were found stuffed into her mouth, and her hands and legs were tied together before she was smothering to death. The case came to light when Anand came home for lunch in the afternoon. He found his wife's body lying in a bedroom of the house. There were no injury marks on the body, police said.

It looks as if this heinous crime was committed by people well known to the lady. Because none of things were scattered around and cash and ornaments inside the almirah were intact. On the face of it, it does not look like murder for gain, analyzed deputy commissioner of police, Amaranath Reddy.

It is learnt that Bhargavi, who suffered from diabetes, had gone out for medical check up by car. Car driver, Anand, had dropped her home. It is likely that someone who saw her alone at home would have come in and killed her, Reddy suspected.

Police personnel of Tilakwadi station in the city said that some ornaments were stolen. Sniffer dogs and finger print experts visited the spot and conducted inspection. City deputy police commissioner, Amarnath Reddy and other police officers paid a visit to the scene of crime and guided investigation. So far there have not been any clues who killed the lady and why,.

Out of two daughters of the couple, elder one, Krithika, who is a doctor and married, lives in Bengaluru with husband. Younger daughter,
Anushka, has been pursuing higher education in USA. Anand will be retiring at the end of this month.

Anand said he would donate his wife's body to Jawaharlal Nehru medical College here for research.
