Mangaluru, May 11: Chief whip of Karnataka Legislative assembly Ivan D’Souza took potshots at former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and said that he has no moral right to criticise the Siddaramaiah-led state government.
Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, May 11 he said, “Yeddyurappa said that his party will release a ‘charge sheet’ on the failures of Congress government in the state for the past four years. Yeddyurappa has no right to speak about corruption as he himself has with 16 corruption charges against his name. There are a lot of baseless allegations by the BJP. The party is known for corruption and not fulfilling their promises. The Congress government in the state has fulfilled all the demands of people as mention in the manifesto. BJP has a reputation of corruption charges and also not fulfilling the demands of the people. Even there was rift among the BJP party and later it was divided in to BJP and KJP. We have fulfilled all the demands of the people as mention in our manifesto. Instead of spreading baseless allegations, I openly invite BJP to have a discussion in this regard.”
He also said, "Congress has always worked for the people but BJP has worked to make Karnataka a Congress-free state. Congress is known for its inclusive politics as several schemes have been started for people. On the other hand BJP is known for exclusive politics. They are trying to destabilise the society.”
“I had filed a complaint at Bengaluru east police station against the purported conversation between Ananth Kumar and Yeddyurappa where they admitted about giving money to their party high command when in power. In the video, Union minister Ananth Kumar is heard telling Yeddyurappa to keep the bribery charges alive until the assembly elections, due next year. Based upon my complaint, the court has issued an order on May 6 to Yeddyurappa and Ananth Kumar to appear before the investigation officer to give voice sample within 7 days of time,” informed Ivan.
Speaking about forthcoming elections, Ivan said, "I had always dreamt of becoming an MLA. If my party gives me an opportunity, then I will be definitely ready to contest the forthcoming elections.”
Meanwhile, Ivan D’Souza handed over cheques to seven people amounting to Rs 4,60,000 from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund.
