Bantwal: Serial thefts- Three houses ransacked; cash, valuables stolen

Bantwal, May 14: Thieves broke into three houses at Karinka, Anantadi gram at night when the family members were away on May 13. Thefts occurred in the houses belonging to Rukma, Malati and Nagesha when the family members had gone to attend Brahmakalashotsava programme at a local temple.

There was attempted theft at the house of Vivek also. Two ear rings and five thousand rupees are missing from the house of Rukma. Total value of missing items is Rs 24 thousand. Gold ear rings and two thousand rupees are missing from the house of Malati. Children’s rings, a bracelet and cash were stolen from the house of Nagesh.

Religious and cultural programmes are being held in Karinka Durgaparameshwari temple here for the last one week due to Brahmakalashotsava. All the people of the gram have been participating in it. Cultural programmes were continuing till late night. A hall programme and drama from popular drama troupe of the district was held on Friday night also.

The doors of all the houses were found broken with iron rod and axe. Thieves entered houses, broke the cupboards and ransacked the items. 

It is learnt that the theft occurred between 9 pm and 10.30 pm. As the news spread, the team of volunteers in the temple searched in the vicinity. Villagers said that there is suspicion on some of the locals. 

A case has been registered in Vitla police station following a complaint by Rukma.
