Bantwal, May 15: A woman who intervened in a fight between her daughter and son-in-law was jostled around and suffered injuries. She later died in a hospital.

Kusuma (54), a native of Manjeshwar, had suffered serious injury to her head after she was pushed around in a fight involving her daughter and son-in-law. She was admitted into the government Wenlock Hospital at Mangaluru for treatment but could not be saved in spite of best efforts of doctors.

Kusuma's daughter, Umavathy, had married Jayaprasad (41) from Nadaje in Manchi village near here a few years back. Kusuma was on a visit of her daughter and her husband. During her visit, a fight broke out between Umavathy and Jayaprasad on some family matter on May 12. When Kusuma tried to strike truce between the fighting couple by coming in between them, her son-in-law reportedly pushed her aside. In this incident, her head banged against the wall, resulting in grievous injury to her head. She was admitted into the hospital at Vittal. From there she was referred to the hospital at Mangaluru where she breathed her last on Sunday May 14.

A case has been filed against Jayaprasad relating to Kusuma's death. Sources said that the accused has been taken into custody by the police.
