Koppal: Drunkard kills two children, leaves three seriously injured

Koppal, May 15: In an incident which happened at Kakkaragola village in Gangavathi taluk of the district during late night on Saturday May 13, a drunkard attacked his family members, and left two children dead. He had attacked his four children and his mother in drunken stupor. He later committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in the outskirts of his village.

The accused, identified as Honnurappa Katiger (34), had attacked his family members with sharp weapons. While his daughter, Pavitra (10), died on the spot, another daughter, Triveni (8) passed away when being shifted to a hospital. His children, Eranna (5) and two-year-old Siddappa as well as mother, Eramma (55), who have been seriously injured, stand admitted into Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences at Hubballi.

Honnurappa had married Vishalakshi, daughter of his maternal uncle, 11 years back. He was in the habit of getting drunk always and pestering his mother and wife for money to buy liquor. He used to beat up both of them. He recently had attacked his wife, mother and children and then sent his wife to her parental home. Late night on Saturday, he fed poison to the four children who were asleep and then hit them with an axe and hoe in head, mouth, nose and other regions. When his mother tried to save the children, he also indiscriminatately hit her, leaving everyone in a pool of blood. He then committed suicide.

De[ity superintendent of police, S M Sandigawad, police circle inspector, Deepak Bhoosareddy and others visited the spot. A case of murder and suicide were registered against Honnurappa based on complaint made by Vishalakshi.
