Beltangady: Two women dead, several injured after bus topples at Charmadi

Beltangady, May 16: Two women died and several sustained injuries after a private bus toppled on Charmadi Ghat here on Tuesday May 16.

The deceased have been identified as Bhabunni and Hajibu.

The bus, with Kerala registration, was moving from Chikkamagaluru side towards Mangaluru.

The accident took place on the third curve of the ghat.

One of the injured passengers informed that the accident was caused due to brake failure. 

There were around 40 passengers in the bus. Almost everyone sustained injuries of various degrees. Eleven of the injured have been shifted to Mangaluru for further treatment, while the others are getting treatment in a hospital in Beltangady. 

All the passengers are from Anantpur district and were on a trip to religious places.

Dharmasthala police arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    It is very sad. RIP those killed and speedy recovery of those injured. Buses and any other vehicles should be in top driving condition while on such Ghats with hairpin bends and curvy roads. It would have been worst as this bus toppled only once otherwise?????

    the vehicles moving in ghat sections to be maintained properly. Blaming the driver will not help as accident has taken place already. May the souls of deceased rest in peace.Nothing is certain in this world other than death.
