Puttur: LPG tanker falls into drain - no gas leakage

Daijiworld Media Network - Puttur (SP)

Puttur, Jun 2: An LPG tanker loaded with gas went out of its driver's control and tumbled into a drain on Thursday June 1. The incident happened at Periyashanti near Nelyady on national highway 75 between Mangaluru and Bengaluru.

It is said that the driver of the tanker, which was moving towards Bengaluru, had moved the tanker to the edge of the road to pave way for a vehicle that was trying to overtake the tanker. Because of slippery road on account of rain in the area, the tyres of the tanker skidded, and its driver lost control over the vehicle.

Driver of the tanker, Vadivelu (29) from Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu escaped without injuries. As the tanker fell a little away from the road, traffic was not affected. The LPG in the tanker was transferred to another tanker after an empty tanker arrived from Mangaluru in the afternoon.

As a precautionary measure, along with fire fighting vehicles of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd, fire tenders from Mangaluru and town were stationed at the spot. Chief fire officer, Shivashankar, divisional fire officer, Tippeswamy and others were present. Staff of Nelyady police outpost and Uppinangady station looked after smooth movement of vehicles.
