Dharwad, Jun 3: Two farmers who came in contact with a live wire while working in their fields at Devikoppa village in Kalaghatagi taluk in the district on Friday June 2 lost their lives. They were Basavaraj Yallappa Kyarikoppa (52), and Channabasappa Basalingappa Dhoolikoppa (42).

Both were working in their fields where there are standing sugarcane crops when tragedy struck.

As soon as they came to know of the incidents, villagers reached the spot in large numbers and began hurling choicest abuses at officials of Hubballi Electricity Supply Company Ltd (Hescom). Leaders and youngsters from the village said that they had complained about the fallen cable to the attention of the officials but they had failed to address the issue. Angry villagers then urged their leaders to teach a fitting lesson to the lazy officials. The villagers who reached the office of Hescom, accused the staff of causing the death of their neighbours because of their negligence. They destroyed furniture in the office.
