Bantwal: 64-year-old woman succumbs to burn injuries at hospital

Bantwal, Jun 5: A woman who had suffered extensive burn injuries and admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru succumbed to her injuries on Sunday, June 4. The victim happened to be Mary D'Souza (64), wife of Charles D'Souza, resident of Goodinabali in B Mooda village here.

Mary was heating water in the bathroom of her home on Saturday June 3 evening when the accident happened. She had placed firewood pieces in the hearth, started fire, and was spraying some kerosene to help the fire to gain intensity when fire suddenly leapt up as a result of which her sari caught fire. Having been inflicted with serious injuries, Mary had been immediately rushed to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

Although the doctors at the hospital tried their best to save the lady, they did not succeed. Mary lost her life on Sunday without responding to treatment. On the basis of a report filed by the victim's son, Francis Kiran D'Souza, a case of unnatural death was registered in the town police station here. Police personnel have begun investigating the case.
