Mangaluru: Suicide by woman - husband taken into custody

Mangaluru, Jun 6: A woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in Moodumarnadu village in the outskirts of the town on Sunday June 4. It is said that she was fed up by the harassment and physical torture inflicted by her husband.

The victim happened to be Suchitra (21), daughter of Shekhar Poojary of Moodumarnadu Hosamane. The police have taken her husband, Subhash, into custody for questioning.

Suchitra had fallen in love with Subhash, a neighbour, three years back and married him. The couple have two children. After marriage, she stayed with her husband  in  her parental home.  It is said that she was suffering from chronic Asthma but her husband refused to  part with money for medicines and treatment.

On Sunday too Suchitra had sought money from her husband for her treatment but instead of helping her, he had beaten her up. Hurt at this behaviour, Suchitra went into the house and hanged herself, sources stated. Suchitra's mother, Vasanti, had filed complaint against Subhash, in the local police station about the incident.
